The way that child support is calculated will change substantially on January 1, 2011. Parents who spend at least seventy three overnights per year with their child, may be entitled to a credit in their child support calculations that recognizes the time they spend with their children.
Depending on the respective income of the parties, time spent with children may significantly impact the amount of child support to be paid. These calculations have become even more complicated with the new law.
